Vanna turns to look, and is surprised to see the fog has swallowed the island… but has not caught up to them.
Vanna: They’re… not getting closer? I always heard they were FASTER than this…
They’ve passed the border into the ghostwater now and the spirits want the Morena’s to know it. They reach up out of the water, screaming and grasping, but between the lights on the ship and Pavel’s new lantern, they can’t reach the young boy who leans over the railing watching them.
Pavel: MOM! The seaghosts are SCREAMING! Are they in pain?!
The light from the Golden Feronia bubbles out around them as she turns up the knob and slowly the ghosts fall back. A whole host of onlookers watch as the Golden Feronia cuts through the glassy black waters. Behind them, the fog has almost eaten the moon, but it stops at the line of lighthouses. All of the ships that had sped away from Grand Physalia, following the Morenas, are nowhere to be seen.
Vanna: No, honey. They’re SCARED.
The ghosts trail behind the boat as they pull out of the open water and towards a tiny island.
Vanna: The Lighthouse Road will be glitchy all night long… We’d better go off-grid to be safe.
Pavel: Off-grid? You mean… home?
The island has two docks sprouting from it’s shores and a cozy looking house raised above the water’s reach on stilts. Tufts of greenery poke out behind the structures on the island and a pair of lounge chairs sit on the beach, waiting to be used. Stairs with railings wrapped in string lights lead up to the main part of the home, which has an arched roof and large rounded windows that glow in the night. Just behind it, a tall tower with a ladder attached juts upward, throwing out light that falls in a circle around the island and keeps the ghosts waiting at the border. Off to the side, a bridge leads to a tiny hut on an islet. Despite its smaller size it is just as bright and welcoming. All three gables have string lights bridging the space between them, coloring the air golden and soft instead of cold and foreboding- as everything beyond it seems to be in the wake of the catastrophe the pair has left behind.
