Vanna holds the lantern aloft, eyes sparkling at the mysterious and seemingly unusual gift.
Vanna: If this shard IS phantomarine, then this lantern is an incredibly rare treasure!
Suddenly, she lowers it, covering it a little more with her hands and shooting a glance over her shoulder with a grimace.
Vanna: Also-- INCREDIBLY ILLEGAL. Why the heck did Garth HAVE this?
She turns and tucks the lantern back into the hammock beside her son. It settles comfortably amongst the plushies and she pulls the blanket over top of it while Pavel grins.
Vanna: Best to hide it for now… Luckily, the light is still effective when it’s covered. Here, have an illegal footwarmer.
Pavel: Ooh… ILLEGAL.
Vanna takes back the mug of cocoa and props her hand on her hip. Pavel leans on the edge of the hammock and smiles at her. The lights glow and make everything seem okay, compared to the difficult day they’d had.
Vanna: Right, then. I’m gonna go put a few things away in the lab - and grab my old sleeping bag! If Garth wanted me to hide my work, I can at least use it as an excuse to tidy up. I’ll sneak back up here once I’m done. We can sleep in the lanternlight until morning, okay?
Pavel: Okay.
Vanna: Goodnight, dear. Love you to bits <3
Vanna leans in and tugs the blanket up to Pavel’s chin. She plants a kiss on his forehead and he smiles and snuggles closer to her warmly. The lantern light glows out from underneath the blanket and he closes his eyes, falling asleep as Vanna turns and heads back downstairs.
Pavel: Night, mom. Love you to smaller bits… <3
